Planogram

Planogram

A planogram is a schematic drawing or plan that shows how merchandise is displayed in the store. The main point of creating a planogram is to place the products in the best way possible to increase sales.

Retailers create planograms that show how products are displayed on the shelves. Also, retailers use planograms to plan the placement of the merchandise in the whole store, on different aisles. Planograms help keep stores efficient and easy to navigate. For small stores, planograms are used to maximize and optimize the space available.

How to create a planogram?

Planograms can be created with the help of a special system or application. If you want to keep it simple, you can draw it on a piece of paper. To create a planogram you will need to:

    1. Measure the space and fixtures

The first thing you need to do is to know how much space you have available to display the products. Also, measure all of your fixtures, from shelves to racks. Take into consideration the number of shelves available and how they can be positioned.

    2. Decide where everything should be placed

After you know how much space you have available, you will need to decide how to fill it up in the most efficient way. You’ll also have to decide how the aisles are placed and which products go where.

While planning where products are placed you will need to take into consideration the brands, the price, and the inventory.

    3. Create the planogram

No matter if you use a program or a simple pen, you will need to put everything on paper. Once you have everything on paper you will get new ideas on how to optimize the placement of the products. Don’t forget to add as many details as possible in case other people will need to use the planogram to stock the products.
