Hardlines, also known as hard goods, are solid products that can’t be bent and heavier. On the opposite side, there are soft goods which, as expected, are soft and pliable. Some products that are considered hardlines are electronics, furniture, and appliances. Softlines include clothes, bedding, curtains, and towels. 

Important characteristics of hardlines

Hardlines have a few characteristics you should consider: 

• Hardlines usually have a lower profit margin compared to softlines. 
• Hardlines are the first products customers give up in case of economical problems.
• These products usually offer limited promotional opportunities. 
• Hard products are often sold along with accessories and softlines to increase their value
