Campaign corner

Beer fight. No, we didn’t forget about this beer fight commercial at the Super Bowl. At a bar, a devoted Coors Light fan excitedly reveals that Coors Light is set to make its debut appearance in the upcoming Super Bowl LVII. However, before he can complete his announcement, a Miller Lite enthusiast interjects and claims that it's actually a Miller Lite commercial. This sparks a dramatic altercation between the two factions, with each side determined to prove that their brand is the rightful owner of the ad. Yet their efforts are in vain as it's revealed that the commercial actually belongs to Blue Moon.

The real GOAT. WNBA player and Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings is teaming up with Coca-Cola Zero Sugar for a new ad campaign during the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Coca-Cola has been a longtime sponsor of the NCAA and the March Madness tournament, and the company is leveraging this partnership to reach a younger, sports-loving demographic.

Retail technology

Retail ecosystems. Modern retail businesses need to adopt a more integrated approach to technology and customer experience in order to meet the demands of today's consumers. It emphasizes the importance of building a "retail ecosystem" that integrates various technologies and touchpoints to create a seamless and personalized shopping experience. Retailers can achieve this by leveraging data and analytics to gain insights into customer behavior, and by partnering with other businesses to offer complementary products and services.

Instacart’s problems. There’s increasing pushback against Instacart from retailers, who are frustrated with the company's pricing policies and market dominance. Some retailers have begun to look for alternative delivery options, while others are exploring ways to build their own delivery networks. However, the article notes that Instacart remains a dominant force in the market, with a significant share of the grocery delivery market and a strong network of partners and customers.

The expert column

Increase sales. In our recent article, we talked about how to increase sales in grocery stores. We’ve asked 5 retail experts and they’ve shared their top tips and tricks. Read the article to discover their pieces of advice. Here’s what James Tenser mentioned:

“Inventory accuracy is the foundational discipline beneath every other retail performance metric. Poor OSA (on-shelf availability) results in lost sales. The solution is not more safety stock, as this ties up cash and leads to excess perishability and markdowns, as well as increased labor costs.”

James Tenser, President of VSN Strategies

Grocery inflation. Is inflation giving grocers a bad rap? This was the topic of the latest RetailWire discussions. Various retail experts commented and offered their thoughts on the matter. Here’s what Ken Morris stated:

Grocery shoppers and spending

Grocery spend. A survey by Acosta found that while consumers remain optimistic about the economy and their personal finances, they are becoming more cautious in their grocery spending. The survey found that consumers are increasingly looking for deals and discounts, and are more likely to shop at discount stores and online retailers.

Omnichannel grocery shoppers. While online grocery sales have grown rapidly in recent years, most grocery shopping still takes place in physical stores, with consumers typically using a combination of in-store and online channels. Retailers need to understand the needs and preferences of these omnichannel shoppers in order to provide a seamless and personalized shopping experience.
